Colin Eccles

Colin is currently Board Chair for Lahai Health, a non-profit clinic offering Medical, Dental and Mental Health services, as well as a founding member of the Digital Directors Network (DDN). 

Colin is an industry recognized technology and business visionary with strategic and operational experience in the Financial Services Industry. He has an exceptional record of success in all areas of IT, bank operations, IT risk & cyber security, large program delivery, enterprise architecture and mergers & acquisitions. 

Colin retired from Webster Bank in May 2018, where he was EVP & Chief Information Officer with responsibility for all technology and bank operations including technology responsibility for HSA (Health Savings Accounts) Bank. 

Previously, Colin was the EVP and Chief Information Officer for Umpqua Bank, where he provided executive leadership for the Technology Advancement Group. He was responsible for all aspects of information technology and back office functions for all payment services. Prior to joining Umpqua Bank, Colin was the Senior Vice President and CIO of Washington Mutual Retail Bank, where he provided executive leadership as head of the Retail Bank Technology organization. 

Colin has extensive experience in Information / Cyber Security and achieved CERT Certification in Board Cybersecurity Oversight from NACD and Carnegie Mellon University Cert Division. At Webster Bank, he managed the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) function which:

  • Built an IT Risk, Governance and Policy & Standards capability
  • Developed a multi-year roadmap for Information / Cyber Security in alignment with FFIEC – CAT, NIST and SANS Top 20 frameworks and tools
  • Developed an Information Security Risk Assessment process for reporting to Regulators, Board of Directors and Internal Risk Committees
  • Built a Technology & Security Operations Command Center for 24 x 7 monitoring and service delivery

Colin is sought out to be on and present at industry advisory boards, CIO executive forums and roundtables. He served on FIS’ Large Bank Advisory Board and the Financial Services Roundtable (FSR) BITs Executive Board / Advisory Committee. In 2010, Colin was recognized by Bank Systems & Technology as an Elite 8 CIO for his expertise and leadership in mergers and acquisitions.  

Colin earned a Masters degree in Business Leadership (MBL) from the University of South Africa and Bachelor of Science (Hons) degree in Mathematical Statistics & Computer Science from the University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa. He achieved certifications as a Project Management Professional (PMP) from the Project Management Institute as well as Operational Excellence (OpEx) Executive Champion and Six Sigma Green Belt.
